K-pop group BLACKPINK’s Lisa (Lalisa Manoban) took home her second MTV Video Music Award in a jaw-dropping moment that had fans buzzing worldwide. The 2024 VMAs, held at UBS Arena in New York yesterday, September 11, saw Lisa win Best K-pop song for her chart-topping single Rockstar—her first release under her own label, LLOUD.

The 27 year old Thai K-pop star wasn’t just basking in her second historic win, she also snagged nominations in three other categories—Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Art Direction. Her performance at the event was as electric as her red leather outfit. Lisa had the crowd on their feet as she performed a powerful medley of her hits Rockstar and her latest banger, New Woman.

During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Lisa expressed her gratitude to her team at LLOUD, their partners at RCA Records, and her loyal global fans—Blinks and Lilies.

“Rockstar was a meaningful comeback for me after ‘Lalisa,’ so this is very special.”

Lisa, hailing from the northeastern Thai province of Buriram, made history yet again by becoming the first female artist to win Best K-pop twice, following her initial victory in 2022 with the self-titled song, Lalisa. She ended her speech with another heartfelt thank you in Thai, paying homage to her roots, reported Bangkok Post.

In related news, in a dazzling twist on standard in-flight service, AirAsia’s Funteam cabin crew at Kuala Lumpur turned a routine flight into a concert extravaganza. Mid-journey, they burst into a high-energy performance of Lisa’s chart-topping hit Rockstar, followed by a rousing rendition of Lady Gaga’s Applause.

In other news, in a jaw-dropping display of sheer eating prowess, world champion Worachai Wijitwongjaroen set a new record at the seventh annual deep-fried meatball eating contest in Buriram. The event, designed to showcase one of the province’s signature dishes, saw Worachai devour an astounding 65 sticks of meatballs in just five minutes, beating the previous record by two sticks.
