Booze, bruises & bottle blues: Pattaya beach bum clobbers tourist
A booze-soaked beach bum with a rap sheet as long as Pattaya Beach punched a Pakistani tourist in the face for no reason, before sheepishly saying sorry and begging not to be nicked… again.
The Pakistani tourist’s early morning stroll turned into a bloody mess after the drunk Thai jailbird randomly punched him in the mouth at Pattaya Klang Beach, leaving the victim dazed and bleeding while fellow tourists pinned the attacker to the ground.
The shocking assault happened at 4.40am on April 17, when 35-= year old Mohammad Iqbal reported the attack to Police Lieutenant Itthiphon Tangchuthawiwat, Deputy Inspector at Pattaya City Police Station.
Iqbal told police he was simply out enjoying the bright lights of Pattaya when a Thai man approached him without warning and landed a blow to his face, splitting his lip.
Luckily, a fellow tourist of the same nationality stepped in and managed to detain the attacker until police arrived.
Officers rushed to the scene, where witnesses pointed out the suspect, later identified as 31 year old Thana, who was visibly intoxicated and freely admitted to the attack.
“He said he didn’t even know why he did it,” said one officer. “He claimed he’d downed a small bottle of white liquor and was just collecting bottles along the beach when he suddenly decided to lash out.”
Despite being drunk and disorderly, Thana didn’t try to flee. Instead, he raised his hands in apology and pleaded with the victim not to press charges.
Police weren’t so forgiving. A background check revealed Thana has a long history of arrests and stints behind bars, mostly for petty crimes and violent outbursts. He’s reportedly been in and out of prison multiple times, and each time, he returns to Pattaya Beach to scavenge bottles and spark trouble.
“This isn’t the first time he’s caused problems here,” a local officer said. “He’s become a real nuisance.”
Thana was taken into custody for further questioning as police prepare to slap him with fresh charges.
