A miraculous event unfolded yesterday, November 14, at Wat Mai Burapharam in Udon Thani, captivating locals during a religious ceremony. Clouds formed into the likeness of the seated monk, prompting a fervent rush for lottery tickets bearing the number 652.

During the ceremony, led by the well-known monk Phra Achan Pornsak, the sky offered a mystical spectacle. As he chanted prayers for Somdet Phra Phutthachan To Brahmaramsi, or Somdet To, the crowd was taken aback by clouds assembling into a shape resembling the revered monk. Witnesses, overcome with awe, chanted praises and quickly sought out the number on the incense sticks lit by Phra Achan, which revealed the sequence 652.

The scene soon turned to excitement as attendees scrambled to buy lottery tickets featuring the auspicious number. Vendors at the event quickly sold out as the number 652 gained a reputation for good fortune.

Phra Achan Pornsak shared that many believers have previously received blessings and fortune through lottery wins. The community’s faith has consequently grown, leading them to collectively fund the creation of the Somdet To statue as an act of religious devotion. Somdet Phra Phutthachan To Brahmaramsi is a figure revered for his virtuous conduct and spiritual wisdom, commanding respect and admiration since his lifetime.

The monk’s fame is not only due to his virtuous life but also his mastery of magical incantations and charms. Particularly renowned are the sacred amulets known as Phra Somdet created by Somdet To as offerings to Buddhism. These amulets are considered one of the five most revered sacred items in Thailand, part of the Benjapakee collection, and can command prices in the millions of baht.

Phra Achan emphasised that the enduring admiration for Somdet To stems from his exceptional character and miraculous abilities, securing his status as a timeless figure in Thai Buddhism. Many Buddhists across Thailand continue to hold him in high esteem, considering him an immortal monk whose legacy endures, reported KhaoSod.

“The faith and respect for Somdet To are evident among Buddhists and spiritual followers who have experienced fortune through him. This shared belief has inspired the creation of a statue in his honour.”
