Bus crash in Nakhon Ratchasima leaves 18 injured

Eighteen passengers experienced a harrowing journey when their bus collided with a trailer, struck a lamppost, and veered off the road, overturning on its side.
The incident occurred at 12.30am, today, February 18, when Police Colonel Chokchai received reports of a collision near a CPF chicken processing plant at kilometre marker 58+725 on Highway 24, Chok Chai-Det Udom Road, Tha Yiam subdistrict, Chok Chai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Police and emergency volunteers from Hook 31, Chok Chai point, responded promptly to the scene.
On arrival, they found an intercity bus from a company operating the Ubon Ratchathani-Pattaya-Rayong route in a precarious position, having slid off the road amidst continuous light rain, and tipped over on its left side, blocking the entry-exit door.
Passengers were trapped inside, and emergency services had to open the roof’s emergency exit to evacuate them one by one. This was done carefully due to the risk of electric leakage from the damaged lamp post.

The evacuation took over 20 minutes to complete. The injured people included eight men and 10 women, predominantly working-age people from Ubon Ratchathani province.
They were transported to Chok Chai Hospital, where four required observation, while others received treatment for minor injuries and were discharged.
Investigations revealed that the bus had departed from Ubon Ratchathani Bus Terminal en route to Pattaya and Rayong. As it approached Chok Chai district, light rain, marking the year’s first downpour, made the roads slippery, reported KhaoSod.
The driver lost control, resulting in the vehicle skidding off the road, colliding with a trailer, and hitting a lamp post. Consequently, the bus ended up in a roadside ditch, causing injuries and damage to government property. Police will conduct further investigations to determine the precise cause of the accident.
