University student killed in bus accident in Bangkok

A tragic accident occurred today when a second-year university student riding a motorcycle was fatally struck by an air-conditioned bus on Phahonyothin Road in the Bang Khen district.

Officers from Bang Khen Police Station received a report of the incident today, January 30, involving a bus and a motorcycle, resulting in a fatality. The accident took place on the inbound lane of Phahonyothin Road in Anusawari, Bang Khen, Bangkok.

Emergency services, including a forensic doctor from Bhumibol Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, were dispatched to the scene, located opposite Bang Bua restaurant.

The incident occurred on the leftmost lane of the three-lane road. The victim was identified as 20 year old Kanyanat Chaipha, a second-year film communication student at a private university.

She was found wearing a black long-sleeve shirt over a red round-neck shirt and black track pants. Notably, she was not wearing a helmet.

The victim sustained multiple injuries, including fractured arms and a head injury caused by the bus wheel. Her body was found approximately 5 metres from her red Honda PCX motorcycle, registration 9กส 7379 Bangkok.

The air-conditioned bus, Route 522, which operates between Rangsit and Victory Monument, registration 13-1849 Bangkok, was stationary in the leftmost lane. Upon inspection, the left rear wheel had collision marks and brain matter was found attached. This evidence was documented by the police.

Bus driver Aree, who was questioned by police, stated that the bus had departed from Rangsit and was heading to Victory Monument. Upon reaching the accident site, the bus changed lanes to the left, leading to the collision with the motorcycle, reported KhaoSod.

Initially, police detained the bus driver for further questioning and examined CCTV footage for legal proceedings. The victim’s body was sent to Bhumibol Hospital’s forensic institute for examination, and her family was contacted to arrange for the retrieval of her remains.
