Tree smash: Pickup truck crash claims 4 lives in Uthai Thani
A tragic accident occurred in Uthai Thani when four young men lost their lives after their pickup truck veered off a curve, colliding with a large tree. The incident left the vehicle severely damaged, with the cab torn apart and scattered.
The accident took place yesterday, November 18, at 11.45pm near the Silathong curve, close to the Lin sugar factory on Route 333 in Village 12, Thap Luang subdistrict, Ban Rai district, Uthai Thani province. Local police, including police lieutenant Suwan Boonart, responded to the scene following reports of the crash.
Upon arrival, officers found a black Isuzu pickup truck with registration number 1 ฒง 8731 Bangkok overturned and smashed against a tree. The four individuals inside the vehicle were trapped in the cab, which was badly torn apart.
The truck chassis was crushed against the tree. Emergency responders from Ban Rai Rescue Association, Uthai Thani Rescue Foundation, and Samakan Dan Chang Rescue arrived promptly with cutting tools to attempt a rescue.
Despite their efforts, all four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as 22 year old Sarawut Deelun from Suphan Buri province, and Roengrit Bamrungthong, along with two others whose relatives had yet to be contacted for confirmation.
Investigations revealed that the four men had left a liquor shop named Hok Glom, located 2 kilometres beyond the crash site towards Ban Rai district. A witness at the shop recounted the events of the night, stating that around 10pm, the group arrived and consumed a bottle of alcohol. After finishing, they ordered another round and appeared intoxicated.
Their behaviour turned somewhat aggressive, prompting them to leave for their homes in Nong Ya Sai district around 11pm. The fatal crash was reported just before midnight, with the vehicle reportedly travelling at high speeds when it failed to negotiate the curve.
Police officers, alongside rescue teams, transported the bodies to Ban Rai Hospital, awaiting family members for identification and to proceed with funeral arrangements, reported KhaoSod.
