Thai king and queen to make historic state visit to Bhutan

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida are preparing for their first official overseas state visit to Bhutan from April 25 to 28, marking a historic moment in strengthening ties between the two nations.

The royal visit is in response to an invitation from Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and it promises to be a grand cultural exchange.

Upon their arrival, the Thai royals will be warmly welcomed by King Jigme Singye Wangchuck and the Queen of Bhutan.

One of the highlights of their visit will be a religious ceremony at the sacred Buddha Dordenma, where 74 Thai monks and 74 Bhutanese monks will come together to perform Buddhist chants in a blessing ceremony for the royal couple.

Their itinerary will also showcase the rich traditions of Bhutan. The royals will participate in Bhutanese cultural activities, including traditional archery, local games, and displays of exquisite woven textiles and garments.

In addition to these cultural highlights, King Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida will explore various development projects, including a partnership between Thailand’s Royal Projects and Bhutan, as well as the One Gewog, One Product (OGOP) initiative – an effort to promote local products in Bhutan’s communities.

This royal visit aims to further solidify the longstanding bond between the Thai and Bhutanese royal families, fostering goodwill and enhancing mutual understanding between their peoples. It serves as a celebration of the enduring friendship between the nations.

To mark this momentous occasion, the Thai government will also host a series of cultural events, including traditional Thai performances, Muay Thai boxing exhibitions, and an opportunity to experience Thailand’s renowned cuisine. To cap it off, a friendly football match will be held, symbolising the growing camaraderie between the two nations, reported Bangkok Post.

As Thailand and Bhutan strengthen their royal and cultural ties, this state visit will undoubtedly be a defining moment in the history of their diplomatic relationship. The world will be watching as these two proud nations come together to celebrate their shared values and traditions.
