Slippery crash: Oil spill causes 7-vehicle collision in Pathum Thani

An oil spill on Phahon Yothin Road led to a seven-vehicle collision, resulting in injuries to six people, comprising three men and three women. Emergency personnel promptly responded to the scene to manage the cleanup and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
At 3am today, April 5, Police Lieutenant Warut Phumipak received a report of a multi-vehicle collision on the outbound express lane of Phahon Yothin Road, kilometre marker 36+200, in Khlong Nueng subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province.
The scene involved four pickup trucks, one public sedan, one private sedan, and an oil tanker, all obstructing the road. Police closed the express lane to facilitate the removal of the vehicles, and six injured people were transported to nearby hospitals.
Somchai, a 59 year old Isuzu pickup driver from Phetchabun, stated that while returning home from selling vegetables at the Si Mum Mueang market, his vehicle swerved and obstructed the road. He then heard multiple collisions, including one involving his pickup. He stated that the road was slippery due to oil.
A volunteer from the Hongsakun unit confirmed receiving reports of multiple vehicle collisions and numerous injuries upon arrival. The volunteer noted that the oil spill, whose source remains unknown, caused the road to become hazardous.
Following the initial investigation, Pol. Lt. Warut documented the scene and coordinated with the Khlong Luang municipal fire service to wash away the oil residue and clear the express lane, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, a 22-wheel truck loaded with stones ploughed into seven vehicles stopped at a red light in Buriram after suffering brake failure, leaving several people injured.
The crash occurred at around 8.20am on March 31 at Phatthara intersection in Samet subdistrict, Mueang district. Police Lieutenant Porachat Raksawong from Mueang Buriram Police Station confirmed the incident and said emergency services were quickly dispatched. Authorities are investigating the cause of the mechanical failure.
