May 29 forecast warns of heavy rain, rough seas in Thailand

Thailand is expected to see increased rainfall over the next 24 hours, with heavy rain forecast in some areas and very heavy rain in parts of the South’s west coast, according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) today, May 29.

The TMD said a moderately strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a monsoon trough stretching across upper Laos into a low-pressure cell over the South China Sea, is causing wetter conditions across the country.

Residents were advised to prepare for heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may trigger flash floods and runoff, especially in low-lying areas and locations near waterways.

Waves in the upper Andaman Sea, from Phuket northward, are forecast at two to three metres and higher than three metres during thunderstorms. In the lower Andaman Sea, from Krabi southward, waves are expected to be around two metres, and above two metres during thunderstorms.

The upper Gulf of Thailand is forecast to see waves of one to two metres, rising above two metres during thunderstorms. Boat operators were urged to proceed with caution and avoid stormy areas, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period.

The Thailand weather forecast for the 24 hours from 6am today to 6am tomorrow predicts thunderstorms across all regions.
