Driver surrenders to police after fatal Pathum Thani collision

The driver of a grey Honda City yesterday turned himself in at Khlong Luang Police Station in Pathum Thani province following a collision with a motorcycle.
The incident, which took place on, April 1 at approximately 2.30am, resulted in the death of 16 year old called Surachart from Bang Krasan, Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, and injuries to 16 year old Thanakorn from Nong Han district, Udon Thani province, and 15 year old Saknon.
The accident occurred on the road along Khlong Sam near the entrance to Thanun Village in Khlong Sam subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province. After the collision, the driver of the Honda car, 28 year old Phattarapong (surname withheld), fled the scene with his vehicle, but CCTV footage captured the event.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchai Saengsong, Deputy Chief Investigator at Khlong Luang Police Station, confirmed that Phattarapong had met with investigators for further questioning and a blood alcohol test.
Phattarapong is facing charges of reckless driving causing death and injury, failing to stop and assist, and fleeing the scene. The results of the blood alcohol test are pending from the hospital.
No statements have been taken from the dead teenager’s family or that of those injured, as they are waiting for recovery and funeral arrangements to be completed. A meeting will be arranged for all parties to discuss compensation.

Phattarapong explained that he had been driving home from the Phacharoen market and had checked both directions before crossing the lane. Unfortunately, the motorcycle was coming straight, resulting in the collision.
He expressed his shock and has apologised to the families of the injured and deceased, stating that he did not intend for the accident to occur, reported KhaoSod.
