As a cool breeze swept through South Pattaya, the Grand Hall Market became the city’s ultimate winter shopping hotspot. Thai locals and tourists descended on the bustling marketplace yesterday, November 26, hunting for budget-friendly winter gear as the region braced for the season’s chillier days.

With the winter season officially announced by the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), a strengthening northeastern monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand, coupled with a low-pressure system from the South China Sea, is bringing lower temperatures to the region. The cooler weather has triggered a shopping frenzy, especially for secondhand long-sleeved shirts, jackets, and cosy blankets, said a vendor specialising in winter wear.

“The chill is definitely in the air, and people are rushing to prepare.”

Many sellers reported a surge in sales, with affordable prices attracting thrifty shoppers looking to bundle up without blowing their budgets.

The market, one of South Pattaya’s largest hubs for secondhand and new goods, was buzzing with activity as customers sifted through racks and stalls. Vibrant displays of colourful scarves, thick coats, and woolly hats painted a festive scene, adding to the lively atmosphere.

For tourists, the Grand Hall Market provided a unique shopping experience, blending the thrill of bargain hunting with the charm of local culture.

“We didn’t expect it to get so chilly here, but the market has everything we need,” said a European visitor.
