Lottery hiss-teria in Songkhla as king cobra slithers into family car

A routine afternoon turned into a heart-stopping moment for a Songkhla family when a 3-metre-long king cobra slithered into a parked car’s engine, sending locals into a frenzy.
While officials rushed to capture the venomous intruder, superstitious residents had their eyes on something else—the car’s registration number for the upcoming lottery draw.
The dramatic encounter took place in Ban Khlong Bon, Khlong Kwang subdistrict, Na Thawi district, Songkhla province. At around noon, 44 year old Mat Aleb spotted the massive snake vanishing into the engine compartment of his white Toyota Vios.
Fearing the deadly reptile, he immediately called for help from local snake control expert Taweesak Boonsate.
Upon arrival, Taweesak and his team were led to the car, where the cobra had wedged itself deep inside the engine.
The rescue turned into a tense game of hide-and-seek, with the serpent evading capture by shifting around the car’s machinery. The chase lasted several minutes before the snake finally coiled itself behind the headlights.
With precision, Taweesak used a specialised hook to extract the snake, revealing its impressive 3.10-metre length. The cobra was carefully secured in a sack before being transported for release in a remote forest, far from human settlements.
According to Mat, the cobra’s unexpected appearance was likely due to children playing nearby. A group of kids had been flying kites in a palm garden when one accidentally stepped on the snake’s tail.
Enraged, the cobra reportedly chased the terrified children back towards the house, ultimately seeking refuge in the car’s engine.
While the rescue team focused on removing the dangerous intruder, superstitious locals had their own priorities. Observing the incident, they eagerly noted down the house number 42/4 and the car’s registration 5603, convinced that these numbers held lucky significance for the upcoming March 16 lottery draw, reported KhaoSod.
Though the cobra was safely relocated, the incident left locals shaken—and perhaps a few hoping for a lucky windfall in the next lottery round.
