Bangkok police catch man with handmade gun at bus terminal

Police swiftly apprehended a young man carrying a handmade gun and .38 calibre bullets at a Bangkok bus terminal. The suspect, who admitted purchasing the weapon from a friend, was immediately taken into custody.

At around 4pm yesterday, September 25, Phuwadol Unphon, the Superintendent of Bang Sue Police Station, along with Deputy Superintendent Woraphat Sukthai and Inspector Wuttidet Phokha, led a team to arrest Ittipon, a 24 year old resident of Udon Thani province.

The arrest took place at the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Mo Chit) after security personnel identified a suspicious item in the suspect’s camouflage bag during a routine metal scan.

Security officers at the bus terminal spotted what appeared to be a firearm inside Ittipon’s green camouflage backpack. Upon receiving the alert, the police promptly arrived at the scene.

They found Ittipon standing with the security officers and conducted a thorough search. The officers discovered a handmade gun, known locally as a pen gun, concealed in the right front pocket of Ittipon’s brown jeans and two .38 calibre bullets in the left front pocket.

Ittipon confessed during the initial interrogation that he had bought the firearm from a friend named Boss in Kham Chanod, Udon Thani, for 1,000 baht. He admitted to possessing the weapon without proper authorisation. He was charged with illegal possession of a handmade firearm and ammunition and carrying a firearm in public without a valid reason.

The police have taken Ittipon and the confiscated items to Bang Sue Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

In related news, police in Chon Buri arrested a local blacksmith moonlighting as an illegal gun manufacturer, seizing homemade guns and various illegal gun parts from his residence.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Somchanok Fakphairot and Police Lieutenant Colonel Apichat Boonkerd of the Nong Prue Police Station led the operation on September 15, apprehending the 38 year old suspect in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district.
