policequestion husband after woman's mysterious death in rented flat

A 61 year old man is under investigation after his 66 year old wife was found deceased in their Lop Buri apartment. The couple had been drinking, leading to an argument and physical altercation. The husband later returned to discover her body.
Today, May 9, at 12.20am, Police Lieutenant Banchachop Choptham, deputy inspector at Phatthana Nikhom Police Station, received a report about a death in a dormitory in Phatthana Nikhom district, Lop Buri province. Accompanied by Police Colonel Chaimit Sitthipoon, forensic officers, investigators, a doctor from Phatthana Nikhom Hospital, and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers, he went to the scene.
The incident occurred near dormitory room B1, where the door was found ajar. The room was in disarray, with broken liquor bottles scattered on the floor.
The body of Urai, a 65 year old woman, was found lying on her left side on the bed, wearing a pink tank top and blue shorts. A preliminary examination indicated signs of struggle and assault, with facial swelling, bruises on the body, and a fan cord around the neck. It was estimated that she had been dead for two to three hours.
Outside the room, police detained Niphon, a 61 year old man, who appeared dazed from alcohol and shocked by the event. Initial questioning revealed that he and his wife had been drinking earlier in the evening.
A confrontation arose after he questioned her about an unresolved issue, having seen her talking to another man during work in Bangkok. The argument, fuelled by alcohol, escalated into a physical fight. Niphon admitted to leaving to drink more outside and upon returning late at night, he found his wife had died.
The police remain sceptical of Niphon’s account due to inconsistencies and conflicting evidence. He has been detained for further questioning as the investigation continues.
The deceased’s body has been sent to Phatthana Nikhom Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death before further examination at the forensic institute, reported KhaoSod.
