Russian tourist arrested for running naked on the streets of North Pattaya (video)
A 23 year old Russian tourist found himself in police custody last night when he was nabbed for causing a public disturbance whilst naked on the streets of North Pattaya. The man, whose identity has been kept under wraps as he awaits psychological assessment, was apprehended around 8pm yesterday on Soi Na Kluea 16.
The arrest was executed by a considerable team of Banglamung law enforcement officers, spearheaded by the Superintendent of Bang Lamung Police Station, Police Colonel Navin Sinthurat. The man was reportedly very resistant, showing limited capacity or willingness to communicate in either Thai or English. Even when being transported to a local hospital, he continued to issue threats to the police, reporters, medical staff, and bystanders.
Earlier in the evening, the Russian tourist had been spotted wandering around Na Kluea, completely nude. He was in a state of extreme agitation, shouting at passersby. Several concerned citizens, who had been following and filming him, alerted the police when he unexpectedly lashed out at a couple waiting at a red light near Soi Na Kluea 16. Acting without any clear provocation, he punched the driver, who had asked for his identity to be kept confidential, square in the face.
The video clip of the incident, included below, shows that a group of residents quickly intervened. They tackled the man to the ground and restrained him until the police arrived. He was then transferred to the hospital, reported Pattaya News.
According to Banglamung police, the Russian man will likely face a series of legal charges, pending the results of a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and a blood test for illicit substances. The Pattaya News reported that the suspect was too unstable to provide a statement and continued to threaten reporters.

Naked Russians in Thailand is not a new phenomenon in November. Last year, a naked Russian man was spotted cavorting in Koh Samui. According to witness Justin Ross Lee, an American expat, the drunk man had somehow managed to find himself in the Secret Garden beach resort mixing with shocked leisure seekers.
