British fighter’s life cut short by drug cocktail in Pattaya, inquest

A British fighter’s dreams ended in heartbreak after he was found dead from a drug overdose in a Pattaya hotel room, an inquest has heard.

Joshua Goldstone, from Etchingham, East Sussex, was discovered lifeless in Room 2412 of the Vogue Hotel in Pattaya on October 30.

The 21 year old, who had been living and training in Thailand, was reportedly found alongside Australian boxing champion Jayson Tonkin, who was rushed to hospital and survived.

At Oakwood House in Maidstone, Coroner Sarah Clarke opened an inquest into Goldstone’s death earlier this week.

“This was a suspected drug overdose in a hotel in Thailand.”

Kentonline reported that the Thai emergency services initially listed the cause of death as “respiratory and circulatory system failure,” but a UK post-mortem later confirmed the grim truth, multi-drug toxicity.

The young fighter’s body was repatriated to the UK on November 9, just days after his promising career was tragically cut short.

The rising star had been sharing snapshots of his fighting life in Hua Hin in the weeks leading up to his death, proudly posting from the ring.

Tributes poured in from family, friends and fellow fighters following the shocking news.

Semtex Muay Thai in Tunbridge Wells, where Josh had trained since his teens led the tributes.

“Josh has been a member of Semtex since he was a young teen and quickly became one of the family. He was a strong-spirited, kind-hearted and fearless boy who inspired many of our younger team members. He was the joker of our Semtex family and, without fail, would put a smile on everyone’s face.

“Josh had a very successful fighting career, fighting mainly out in Thailand, taking some almighty wins, known for his aggressive and merciless style. And it was only just the start for him. Goodbyes hurt the most when the story was not finished.”

Loved ones also paid their respects online.

“Your light will continue to shine in our memories of such a fabulous young human being taken far too soon.”

“I’m missing you so much and the pain is unbearable. But I feel your energy and will harness it forever. Shine on, you crazy diamond.”

A full inquest into Joshua Goldstone’s death is expected to be held later this year.
