Shipyard foreman dies after drinking herbal liquor in Si Racha

A 50 year old foreman at a well-known ship repair yard in Si Racha, Chon Buri, was found dead at his home yesterday after reportedly consuming herbal liquor. The body was found by his wife, prompting an immediate police investigation into the unexplained death.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Natthaphon Boonrachakun of Laem Chabang Police Station was alerted to the incident and, along with Sawang Prateep Si Racha rescue volunteers, arrived at the scene.

The body of the deceased, identified as Chondan (surname withheld), was found yesterday, April 10, lying on his back in the kitchen area of the house. He was wearing only a pair of shorts and showed no signs of external injury.

His 48 year old wife, Sangwan (surname withheld), told officers that she had spoken with her husband earlier that day.

He had called to say he had prepared food and left it in the fridge, mentioning only the sweltering heat but otherwise appearing healthy and in good spirits.

However, upon returning home from work that evening, Sangwan was met with a horrifying scene: her husband’s lifeless body sprawled on the kitchen floor.

Near him were a jar of herbal liquor and a bottle of white liquor, suggesting he may have been unwinding with a drink before his upcoming shift.

Police suspect that the combination of high temperatures and alcohol consumption may have triggered sudden heart failure. However, they are not ruling anything out at this stage.

Chondan’s body was transferred by rescue teams to Laem Chabang Hospital, where a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, reported KhaoSod.

Police continue their investigation while urging caution when consuming unregulated herbal or homemade alcoholic drinks, especially during hot weather.
