A tricycle was severely damaged after being hit by an 18-wheel truck in Phetchabun province, leaving the female driver critically injured.
The woman’s nine year old daughter has had to take a two-week break from school to care for her, while her husband, who is blind, also depends on her.
Yesterday, February 13, a Facebook user posted about an incident that occurred on February 2, where the driver was hit by a truck near a bridge by Uncle Tony’s PTT station.
The truck fled the scene, and despite eight days passing, no assistance has been received. The injured driver is the sole provider for her family, which includes a child and a blind husband.
Her leg is fractured, and she is seeking help in locating the truck driver, as her livelihood has been severely impacted. Assistance can be reached at 062-927772, and the family resides in Pa Muang, Mueang district, Sadiang subdistrict.
Reporters contacted the Facebook post’s owner, Supatra Makath, the 23 year old sister of the injured woman. She revealed that her sister collects and sells scrap using a sidecar tricycle, especially on Mondays and Fridays, starting her day at 5am to collect items from a landfill behind the Nangua subdistrict municipality, approximately 10 kilometres from her home.
Critical injury
The incident occurred around 5.30am on February 2, while the sister was driving along the Saraburi-Lom Sak Road near Ban Na Bridge, Nangua subdistrict. Her tricycle was sideswiped by an 18-wheel truck, causing severe damage and leaving her critically injured.
Fortunately, her nine year old daughter, who was asleep in the sidecar, sustained only minor injuries. Rescue workers transported her to Phetchabun Hospital, where it was discovered that her right leg had a torn muscle exposing bone, and she has since developed an infection requiring multiple surgeries.
Supatra further disclosed that upon requesting the police report from Tha Phon District Police Station, it stated her sister had fallen off the tricycle by herself, which confused them.
The vehicle’s severe damage convinced them it was indeed a collision. Furthermore, her sister is known for driving slowly, and Supatra, having accompanied her before, is certain the accident was not self-inflicted. T
his led them to seek media attention out of concern for justice, given her sister’s role as the family’s primary earner, with her blind husband and two daughters aged six and nine, the latter of whom has missed school for two weeks to care for her mother.
Reporters later communicated with the injured woman, identified as 51 year old Jiraporn Khumpairin, who recounted the event.
Sideswiped
On the day of the incident, she left her house at 5am with her daughter asleep in the sidecar. Upon reaching the scene, she was sideswiped by a truck causing the vehicle to overturn.
She recalled the truck being covered with a black tarpaulin. After the incident, the police interviewed her at the hospital, urging her to claim she had fallen off by herself, which she denied, maintaining it was a collision.
Learning that the police recorded it as a self-inflicted accident left her deeply disappointed and she is seeking justice for the incident, reported KhaoSod.
