Tragic fall: Couple tumbles from bridge in northeast Thailand

Both suffered serious injuries. Woman died.

A man and woman plunged from a bridge at Huai Chan Waterfall in Khun Han district, Sisaket province, in northeast Thailand yesterday after an evening of drinking turned deadly.

The couple, aged 38 and 36, suffered serious injuries, and while the man survived, the woman tragically died in the hospital.

Emergency services responded quickly, arriving at the scene where locals had already rushed to help the pair yesterday, June 12. They were immediately transported to Khun Han Hospital, but despite efforts to save her, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The man was later transferred to Sisaket Hospital for further treatment.

Witnesses who were at the scene said the couple had been drinking rice whiskey on the bridge when local security approached and advised them to stop. In a sudden turn of events, the woman fell into the waterfall, with her husband following suit shortly after. Bystanders quickly jumped into action, pulling the pair to safety and providing initial medical assistance until paramedics arrived.

Upon further investigation, it emerged that the couple had been facing significant personal turmoil. The man, who had been under investigation for the alleged sexual assault of his 14 year old daughter, was preparing to be arrested by the police. The charges against him were serious, with the abuse reportedly beginning when the daughter was in sixth grade. As police closed in on him, the man fled with his wife, leading to the tragic incident by the waterfall.

The provincial social development authorities in Sisaket have now taken the couple’s daughter into their care, ensuring her safety as police continue to investigate the case. Police are also proceeding with legal action against the man, who is now facing charges related to his alleged crimes, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, the body of a 72 year old woman was found in a canal in Phuket over 24 hours after she went missing. The woman was last seen near the Bang Yai Canal on June 11, and her abandoned shoes were found on the bank. Despite a search, strong currents forced the operation to halt overnight.
