Tractor traction: Uthai Thani cops defend noisy farmer’s arrest

Police in Mueang Lansak district, Uthai Thani province, addressed social media criticism regarding the arrest of a man for modifying his tractor’s exhaust system, creating excessive noise. Residents lodged complaints, prompting police to issue a warning rather than make an arrest, acknowledging the challenges faced by local farmers.
On March 16 at 11am, Lieutenant Naruepol Chanthates, a duty officer, alongside patrol units, was inspecting Rabam subdistrict. They encountered 37 year old Kamphon, who had altered the exhaust of his agricultural tractor to produce loud noise. Kamphon agreed to revert the exhaust system to its original state, and the incident was documented.
Deputy Inspector Santi Thongchuea stated that the police were initially alerted by relatives about a dispute between siblings over the noisy exhausts.
Upon investigation, both parties were found to have loud vehicles, leading to a mutual warning since they were not causing public disturbance on the roads but were working in fields.
The incident gained media attention, with reports featuring 27 year old Jui, whose husband had confronted their neighbour about the noise.
She recounted how her husband, related to the tractor owner, shouted profanities due to the continuous noise from the neighbour’s tractor. In response, the neighbour reported the verbal altercation to the police.
When questioned, 48 year old community leader Manop, an official from Village 7, Ban Pong Makha, confirmed that the tractor in question was undergoing repairs, causing the noise.
Police confirmed the noise level and instructed Kamphon to remove the modified exhaust and revert to a standard one.
Manop urged the public to understand the police were acting on resident complaints and were performing their duties, reported KhaoSod.
Police reiterated they issued only a warning and requested compliance with regulations.
In similar news, residents in South Pattaya expressed relief as local officials inspected the Guns Shooting and Battle Range, now renamed 556 Shooting Club, following persistent noise disturbances from the facility.
On March 6, Pattaya’s Deputy Mayor Krisana Boonsawat, accompanied by officials from the engineering and public health departments, visited the shooting range after multiple complaints from residents of Jomtien Park Villa 2.
The range had previously faced temporary closure and several inspections due to the noise. In response, the range implemented noise-reduction measures, including soundproof walls and insulation.
