Bangkok man arrested for alleged harassment of teen in park

A 28 year old man from Ubon Ratchathani was arrested for allegedly harassing a 17 year old girl in a public park.

The incident, which took place at 10pm on March 17, involved the suspect, Max also known as Nantawat, diverting the teenager off her intended route and attempting to assault her in a secluded area.

The arrest was made by Police Colonel Komsit Rangsai, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 9, with the support of deputy commander Police Colonel Theerachai Detkard, and other officers from Tha Kham Police Station.

The suspect was apprehended at the Bueng Rang Kaew public park, located in the Bang Khun Thian district of Bangkok. The arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Thon Buri Criminal Court, yesterday, March 18.

The incident gained attention after a rider posted a video on Facebook showing the young woman sitting outside a convenience store. The post claimed she had been taken off-route by a rider and harassed.

The 17 year old victim, referred to as A, works in a well-known department store in the Rama II area. She recounted that after finishing work, she booked a ride through an application to return home to Phetkasem.

The rider deviated from the usual route, claiming to take a shortcut, but instead headed towards the Thian Thale area.

Upon reaching Soi Thian Thale 7, the rider insisted on taking her to a nearby park. Despite her refusal, the rider reportedly drove into a dark area of the park, where he reportedly attempted to sexually assault her.

A managed to escape and call a familiar rider to pick her up. The suspect fled when he saw her contacting someone.

A, visibly shaken by the incident, revealed that the rider’s appearance and vehicle did not match the details listed in the application. She later speculated that the suspect might have been using someone else’s account and possibly under the influence of drugs.

Initially reluctant to report the incident, she eventually decided to file a complaint after her mother’s insistence.

Following the report, police reviewed CCTV footage from the scene, which helped identify and issue an arrest warrant for the suspect, reported KhaoSod.

The suspect, employed as a packing staff at a company, claimed to know A from a Facebook page and denied the harassment allegations. He was subsequently taken to Tha Kham police station for further legal proceedings.
