Stepfather accused of assaulting 11 year old girl in Krabi

A 60 year old stepfather has been accused of sexually assaulting his 11 year old stepdaughter after her elder sister noticed suspicious behaviour and questioned her. The child was reportedly too afraid to inform her mother, fearing she would believe the stepfather over her.

Yesterday, April 8, Saiyan Sukchan, chairperson of the Centre for Protection, along with officials from the Office of Social Development and Human Security in Krabi province, accompanied the girl to Nuea Khlong Police Station.

There, they filed a complaint with Deputy Inspector Sukkrit Suwannarat against the stepfather, Thanakrit, for the alleged assault that took place in December last year at their home in Nuea Khlong subdistrict, Nuea Khlong district, Krabi province.

Saiyan explained that the incident came to light during the Hari Raya festival when the girl’s elder sister visited to take her back to Pattani.

Initially, their mother and stepfather refused to let the girl leave. The sister noticed the girl’s fear of the stepfather and took her back to Pattani. There, she observed the younger girl’s depressive and withdrawn behaviour, which was unusual for a child of her age. When questioned, the 11 year old revealed that the stepfather often showed her inappropriate content.

Concerned about possible abuse, the elder sister examined the girl and found no visible injuries except for tears in her genital area, which seemed unlikely to have resulted from an accident. Upon further questioning, the young girl disclosed the assault, recounting that it occurred while her mother was working, and she was at home alone. The stepfather allegedly locked the door and assaulted her, warning her to keep silent afterwards.

The young victim had kept the incident to herself, too afraid to tell anyone until her sister discovered the truth. The sister informed the girl’s biological father but did not tell their mother, fearing she would side with the stepfather. They reported the case to the Office of Social Development and Human Security in Krabi, who then helped in filing a police complaint, reported KhaoSod.

The police have begun preliminary questioning and filed the complaint. They have also coordinated with the Office of Social Development and Human Security to have the victim undergo a medical examination at Krabi Hospital to gather evidence. Police are now searching for the stepfather to proceed with legal action.
