Blade end: Krabi mechanic’s routine lawnmower repair turns deadly
A seemingly ordinary day turned tragic for a 72 year old Krabi mechanic, as a routine lawnmower repair took a lethal turn.
The Krabi mechanic, Saman, yesterday, February 2, was engaged in what should have been just another day at his repair shop: a humble single-storey setup nestled in the area of Ban Khao Thiam Pa, Khao Thong subdistrict in Krabi province. Little did he know, this would be his final call to duty.
The Krabi Pitak Pracha Foundation Rescue Unit received a desperate plea for help, detailing a horrific incident involving a grinding stone mishap.
Upon arrival, they found the scene painted in tragedy. The workshop, a place of routine repairs for tools, chainsaws, and lawnmowers, now bore witness to a dire accident. Saman lay unconscious, ensconced in a pool of his own blood, his right arm gravely injured near the crease with relentless bleeding.
Despite the rescue team’s rapid response, rushing him to Krabi Hospital in a desperate bid to save his life, Saman succumbed to his injuries en route. Doctors later revealed that shrapnel from the lawnmower blade had lacerated a major blood vessel, resulting in catastrophic blood loss.
The chain of events leading to this tragedy began that morning when a foreign customer delivered a push lawnmower, requesting that the blades be shortened. A straightforward task took a sinister twist.
As Saman wielded the grinding stone to trim the blade’s edge, disaster struck. A blade tip snapped off, slicing into his arm with devastating precision, reported KhaoSod.
In the throes of agony and bleeding profusely, Saman managed to distance himself from the grinding tool and summoned his wife for help. Tragically, as she arrived, he collapsed before her, a heart-wrenching end to a lifetime of craftsmanship and service.
This freak accident stands as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking in even the most routine of tasks.
