Suvarnabhumi Airport issued a strong warning to the public, urging them to avoid flying lanterns or balloons, setting off fireworks, or using lasers in the vicinity of the airport on November 15 during the Loy Krathong festival.

These activities are not only a potential disruption to flight operations but also pose significant threats to aviation safety, potentially resulting in accidents, according to a statement released by airport management yesterday.

Communities situated near the airport have been advised to seek official permission from their respective district offices if they intend to organise any of these activities during the festival.

The statement emphasises that permission requests should be submitted at least a week before the event. This timeframe allows local officials adequate time to process the requests and notify the airport of the precise timing and date for these activities.

To ensure safety and raise awareness, the airport has commenced outreach efforts by dispatching teams to nearby communities. These teams are tasked with educating residents about the dangers certain festival activities can pose to aircraft, especially during critical phases of flight such as takeoff and landing, reported Bangkok Post.

On the day and night of the Loy Krathong festival, Suvarnabhumi Airport plans to bolster security measures. There will be increased security patrols along the runways and surrounding areas to ensure compliance and maintain the safety of flight operations.

In related news, Bangkok’s Wat Arun is set to illuminate the night on November 15 with its Loy Krathong festival. The festival promises a multicultural experience, underscored by a theme song performed in an array of languages, including Thai, English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish, to foster a deeper understanding of the event’s cultural importance.
