5 arrested as obsessive fans stalk Thai actresses

Suspects include both Thai and foreign nationals

Five suspects have been arrested for stalking and harassing Thai actresses Sirilak “Lingling” Kwong and Kornnaphat “Orm” Sethratanapong.

The actresses, who star in the popular TV series The Secret of Us, filed a police complaint after being relentlessly pursued by a group of obsessive fans.

According to police, the suspects had been following the actresses to their residences, photographing their cars and licence plates.

Disturbingly, it was revealed that Orm’s driver had been complicit in the harassment, accepting money from the stalkers in exchange for private information about her whereabouts.

The driver claimed he acted out of concern for Orm, but this excuse was firmly rejected by her family.

Orm discovered the driver’s involvement when she helped him set up a new phone, leading to the discovery of chat messages on LINE that exposed the entire stalking network. The driver was subsequently dismissed from his position, and police are pursuing legal action.

The suspects operated a LINE group to share information, coordinating their stalking activities, which included showing up at the actresses’ homes and attempting to contact Orm’s mother.

Shockingly, some of the fans even booked plane tickets specifically to sit near the actresses during their travels. Police confirmed that the five arrested are only part of a larger group of stalkers, which includes both Thai and foreign nationals, reported Bangkok Post.

Despite earlier warnings from the actresses’ management and Channel 3, the harassment persisted, leading to police involvement.

Police have vowed to take legal action against all those involved, highlighting the serious issue of sasaeng fans—obsessive followers who cross legal and ethical boundaries, endangering the privacy and safety of celebrities.

In similar news, Thai police have apologised to a 28 year old social media influencer after her complaints of being stalked and threatened by a Burmese man were initially ignored.

The star, who reported the harassment over three days, expressed her fear and sleeplessness on Facebook after Bang Khun Thian Police Station failed to update her on the case.
