Two tourists drown after Phuket swimming mishaps
Strong currents turn deadly as lifeguards race to respond

Two foreign tourists drowned yesterday after swimming incidents in Phuket. Karon subdistrict municipality rescue units were alerted yesterday, June 11, at 3.50pm, by lifeguards at Kata Beach about a foreign tourist found unconscious in the water.
Upon arrival, rescuers discovered a foreign male tourist without a pulse. CPR and an Ambu bag were used to revive him before transferring to Chalong Hospital.
The deceased was later identified as 41 year old Evgeny Keminsky from Kazakhstan. Police from Chalong Police Station were notified for an autopsy and the Kazakhstani embassy was contacted to arrange for the body to be returned to his family for religious rites.
At around 4pm the same day, another incident occurred at Bang Tao Beach in Choeng Thale subdistrict, Thalang district. Rescuers were informed of a foreign female tourist, approximately 40 years old, who got caught in a current, reported KhaoSod.
Lifeguards brought her to shore, where she was found unconscious and without a pulse. CPR was administered with the help of other foreigners present, and she was promptly transferred to Thalang Hospital.
In similar news, a 43 year old Egyptian man was seen visibly distraught in the emergency room of a Phuket hospital after his 41 year old Albanian wife tragically drowned at Karon Beach, just hours after their arrival on the island.
Police Captain Charat Lempan of Karon Police Station received the report around 6 p.m. on June 10 from Chalong Hospital, where the woman was officially declared dead. He immediately coordinated with the Tourist Police and, along with Police Colonel Khunadech Na Nongkhai, visited the hospital to begin an investigation.
According to reports, the couple had arrived in Phuket that same afternoon and checked into a hotel in the Karon area, planning to stay until June 12. Around 4 pm, the husband invited his wife to go for a swim at Karon Beach.
