Teen bikers injured in grenade attack near Samut Prakan diner
A grenade blast and armed biker gang attack injured two teenagers near a food stall in Samut Prakan during the early hours of the morning.
The incident occurred at around 1.30am today, November 25, in front of the Mali rice porridge restaurant in Mueang Bang Pla Kot subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi district. Police Lieutenant Sunthorn Phimpanth from Phra Samut Chedi Police Station and rescue officials from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation responded promptly to the report of an assault involving explosives.
At the scene, officers found a black Honda Zoomer-X motorcycle overturned, with two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, injured and visibly shaken. Both had sustained cuts and bruises to their faces and bodies and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The rider, identified as Sukhonwat, a second-year electrical power student, told police he had been heading to hang out with friends at Samut Chedi junction. He was riding with a friend, while two other mates followed behind on a separate motorcycle.
Sukhonwat recounted noticing a group of youths on three motorcycles, with three riders on each bike, approaching from behind. Moments later, he heard an explosion. In a panic, he sped up to escape but lost control, crashing into the restaurant’s sign and flipping the motorcycle.
Following the crash, the armed group, allegedly carrying swords and machetes, fled the scene. Eyewitnesses confirmed seeing the group trailing the teens before the explosion and reported hearing at least one loud blast before the crash occurred.
“After the explosion, I saw the bike crash into the sign. The other group had weapons and sped off quickly toward Samut Chedi junction.”
Police officers have documented the scene and plan to gather further statements from the injured once they are stable. Investigators will also review nearby CCTV footage to identify the attackers and determine whether the explosive device was indeed a grenade, according to KhaoSod.
Officers have not ruled out the possibility of gang-related violence, which has seen a resurgence in parts of Samut Prakan in recent months.
The investigation is ongoing, with police urging any witnesses or locals with information to come forward.
