Chumphon shop owner attacked, gold necklace stolen

A man was captured on CCTV attacking a 54 year old shop owner in Chumphon province with a beer bottle before fleeing with her gold necklace and a gold-encased amulet. The victim’s brother disclosed that the suspect is a regular customer.

Yesterday, April 16, CCTV footage from a shop located along a concrete road in Mueang Chumphon district, Chumphon, showed a man in a dark blue shirt and black shorts striking the shop owner, 54 year old Dang, on the head with a beer bottle.

She fell and was injured before the assailant snatched her gold necklace and escaped. The necklace is reportedly valued at about 50,000 baht (US$1,510) and included a gold-encased Luang Pu Thuat amulet.

A reporter visiting the scene found the shop closed, with 90 year old Juan, the victim’s mother, and 60 year old Wichit, the victim’s brother, seated outside their nearby residence.

Wichit recounted that his sister had opened the shop that morning, accompanied by their mother. A regular customer, Aow, a Myanmar national working as a rubber cutter, had entered the shop.

CCTV captured Aow greeting his sister with a respectful gesture before she turned to retrieve items for him. Seizing the opportunity, Aow assaulted her with a beer bottle, causing her to fall. He then grabbed her gold necklace, weighing 15 grams, along with the amulet, and fled on a motorcycle.

Wichit further appealed to the police to tighten checks on Myanmar nationals in the area, both documented and undocumented. Meanwhile, his sister is receiving treatment at the hospital, reported KhaoSod.
