Thailand rolls out AI police cyborg in Nakhon Pathom

Thailand has unveiled its very own Robocop — and it made its debut at the country’s wildest water fight.
The Royal Thai Police (RTP) proudly revealed photos of AI Police Cyborg 1.0, the nation’s first artificial intelligence-powered police robot, as it patrolled the Songkran festivities on Tonson Road in Nakhon Pathom province.
Locals and tourists alike were stunned to see the futuristic figure standing watch at one of Thailand’s busiest water festival venues.
Nicknamed Pol Col Nakhonpathom Plod Phai, which means Nakhon Pathom is safe, the cyborg officer is part of a groundbreaking collaboration between Provincial Police Region 7, the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police, and the local municipality.
In a Facebook post, the RTP introduced the robotic enforcer as a key part of efforts to enhance public safety during large-scale events. Equipped with smart 360-degree AI-powered cameras, the robot is capable of performing real-time surveillance and identifying threats with impressive accuracy.
“This is the first time AI has been used in this way by Thai police, and it marks a new era of tech-driven public safety,” the RTP stated.
So, what exactly can this Robocop do?
-
Facial recognition & blacklist alerts: The robot can identify persons flagged on watchlists and alert human officers instantly.
-
Suspect tracking: If a suspect is spotted, the cyborg can follow them throughout the event using facial and behavioural data.
-
Advanced search tools: It can locate people based on facial features, clothing, body type, or gender.
-
Weapon detection: The AI can detect real weapons, including knives or wooden objects, while ignoring harmless water guns.
-
Behaviour monitoring: It scans for signs of violence, including fights or aggressive physical contact.
All data gathered is transmitted live to Nakhon Pathom’s Command and Control Centre, where human officers coordinate their responses based on the robot’s findings. The AI Police Cyborg also integrates drone surveillance and local CCTV footage for an expanded security network.
While some festival-goers were amused to see the robot amid the water-soaked chaos, others praised the innovation as a step forward in ensuring safety without interfering with the fun, reported The Nation.
With its sci-fi look and high-tech abilities, AI Police Cyborg 1.0 might just be the future of law enforcement — and Songkran security may never be the same again.
