Rob Burrow’s final podcast series launches with laughter and legacy

New podcast series honours Rob Burrow's spirit and resilience

Rob Burrow’s widow, Lindsey Burrow, shared that she was by his side during the recording of his final podcast series, filled with “fun and laughter,” before his untimely death from motor neurone disease (MND). Lindsey expressed her wish for people to remember Rob as a “great guy” when they listen to the podcast.

Starting September 26, which would have marked his 42nd birthday, five new episodes of “Rob Burrow Seven, Meets” will be available on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Leeds. Lindsey mentioned how much Rob enjoyed recording the podcast and how it embodied his spirit of fun and resilience. She hopes that listeners will cherish the episodes and recall Rob’s positive outlook on life.

Earlier this year, the rugby legend, aged 41, won the Best New Podcast and Creative Innovation Award for his “Seven” podcast with BBC Radio Leeds at The Radio Academy ARIA Awards in May. He had also been nominated for five awards, including Best News Presenter and The Impact Award. Additionally, his podcast moment where Kevin Sinfield carried him across the finish line at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon was nominated for Moment of the Year.

Rob Burrow passed away in June at 41, four and a half years after his MND diagnosis. He was diagnosed with the disease two years after retiring from his illustrious rugby career. Despite his diagnosis, he dedicated himself to raising awareness and funds for MND research.

The podcast series features guests like retired Lioness Steph Houghton, her husband, former footballer Stephen Darby who also has MND, and Burrow’s friend and former teammate Kevin Sinfield. Sinfield, who has raised over £15 million since Burrow’s diagnosis, shares insights into their deep friendship and mutual love for pranks. Both were honoured with CBEs for their contributions to MND awareness.
