Sabrina Carpenter stuns VMAs with alien kiss performance

Sabrina Carpenter wowed the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards with her latest performances, leaving fans astonished.

The artist graced the UBS Arena stage on the evening of September 11, both as a nominee and a performer.

Nominated for several awards including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for ‘Espresso,’ Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction, Carpenter performed three singles from her recent album Short n’ Sweet.

During her rendition of ‘Taste,’ Carpenter surprised everyone by sharing a passionate kiss with a backup dancer dressed as an alien.

Fan Reactions

Fans reacted strongly online. One Twitter user commented, “She’s so iconic for this. She just did the newest version of Madonna x Britney’s moment,” referencing the famous 2003 VMA kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears.

Another wrote, “If Sabrina Carpenter is into blue aliens like that then do I have a movie suggestion for her,” likely alluding to the film Avatar.

“I wish I was that alien,” another fan tweeted enthusiastically.

Carpenter first gained fame through her role in the Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World. She also opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour.

Her hit single ‘Espresso,’ released earlier this year, quickly became an internet sensation, dubbed the song of the summer.

In a profile with The Guardian, Carpenter discussed her rapid rise to fame and her experiences over the past year.

“Full transparency: I’ve never really been on charts until quite recently, so it’s a newfound, like … I’m interested,” Carpenter said. “It’s not the reason I write music and it’s not the reason I’ll ever write music. It’s like the sprinkles on top of the sundae.”

She added, “You start to realise that there’s more to all of it than just, like, blood, sweat and tears and love and talent and passion. There’s beautiful sides to this and there’s really dark, weird sides to all of it. I just love doing it – there’s sort of a need for it – and when that’s the thing that’s driving you, success doesn’t really matter. You’re just gonna keep going regardless. I’ve been called a flop many times and here we are, so…”
