Officer found guilty of harassment for sending messages while on duty
A Metropolitan Police officer has been found guilty of harassment after sending numerous messages to a woman while on duty.
PC Gary Chant was arrested on November 5 last year on harassment charges and was suspended from his role. The harassment involved a woman known to Chant, to whom he sent many unwanted messages while working.
Attached to the Central West Command Unit, PC Chant appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 20 and was convicted of harassment without violence. He is scheduled for sentencing at the same court on October 1.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah of the Met’s Central West Command stated that the department holds its officers to high behavioural standards. She noted that PC Chant’s behaviour did not meet these standards and described his actions as completely unacceptable. Appropriate action was taken in response to his conduct. Jessah emphasized the Met’s commitment to addressing crimes against women and girls, stating that predatory or abusive behaviour by men, whether inside or outside the Met, will be addressed.
Following the court’s decision, misconduct proceedings will commence.
