Vance slams Biden-Harris plea deal with 9/11 terrorists

Vance decries Biden-Harris plea deal with 9/11 terrorists avoiding death penalty

During a campaign speech in Glendale, Arizona, on Wednesday, Trump campaign vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance criticised the plea deal taken by three terrorists awaiting trial in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, who were involved in the Sept. 11 attacks.

Vance stated, “Today, I learned that the Biden-Harris Department of Justice has made a deal with al-Qaeda terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to avoid the death penalty.” He added, “As someone who joined the Marines after 9/11, this is absurd, but not unexpected.”

On Wednesday, the Department of Defense announced that Susan Escallier, the Convening Authority for Military Commissions, entered pretrial agreements with Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi.

The Ohio Republican continued to criticise the Biden-Harris administration, describing it as a “disaster for our country globally.”

Vance argued, “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have weaponised the Department of Justice against their political opponents while making favourable deals with 9/11 terrorists. We need a president who eliminates terrorists, not negotiates with them.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson also condemned the plea deal, calling it “unthinkable.”

“23 years ago, America witnessed the tragic deaths of thousands of innocent people. For over two decades, the families of those murdered by these terrorists have awaited justice. This plea deal is a betrayal to those families. They deserved better from the Biden-Harris Administration,” Johnson wrote in a post on X.

The terms of the plea deals were not disclosed, but it was confirmed that the suspects will avoid the death penalty, as reported by the New York Post.

The defendants are accused of providing training, financial support, and other assistance to the 19 terrorists who hijacked planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, 2001.

The attacks resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths, marking the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil. Families of the victims expressed outrage upon hearing about the deal.

In September, President Biden rejected a plea deal that would have spared the 9/11 architects and co-conspirators from potentially facing the death penalty.

The sentencing in Guantánamo Bay is set for Aug. 5.

Vance also criticised the Biden-Harris administration for other perceived weaknesses, including the recent re-election of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, which many believe was fraudulently won.

“There are many examples we could discuss, but recent news from Venezuela shows a deal with a dictator, promising free and fair elections in exchange,” Vance said. “And predictably, the Kamala Harris administration knows nothing about free and fair elections.”

“They’re placating dictators worldwide. We need to restore American strength by bringing back Donald J. Trump as president.”
