The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) police and police commandos raided 17 locations in Bangkok and surrounding provinces today, including the luxury home belonging to the husband of Thai actress Yardthip Rajpal. The raids are part of a crackdown on suspected online gambling networks.

Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki is also in the news, as he has been accused of spending the Japanese animation studio’s money on his Thai girlfriend “Kanyada”, who he has been seeing since 2013.

In other news, an Australian man was arrested for his involvement in a brawl that broke out between foreign staff and foreign customers at Atlas Restaurant in the Patong area of Phuket in southern Thailand.

Tourists enjoying a boat trip yesterday were treated to a rare display of a pair of Bryde’s whales showing off in the Andaman Sea off Phang Na province.
