Online insult bites back: Woman wins lawsuit over face-off with Attack on Titan comparison
A woman has successfully sued a netizen for derogatory comments comparing her face to the Attack on Titan cartoon character, resulting in a fine of approximately 13,000 baht. According to Taiwanese media Taishi News Network, the drama that began with a comment about looking like Attack on Titan has turned into a legal saga with court appearances and hefty fines.
The incident began when a netizen commented on the woman’s post, criticising her appearance and likening it to the Attack on Titan, a popular anime series. The Titans are bizarre creatures that resemble humans but are much larger. Some have unique powers.
The woman was extremely angry at the netizen for comparing her to the Attack on Titan character, who has a disproportionate face with a protruding mouth. She decided to sue the owner of the comment.
The court made its final decision, and it seems that the comment ‘You look like the Attack on Titan’ is considered defamation. The court ordered the netizen to pay the woman a fine of 12,000 Taiwanese dollars (13,000 baht). Additionally, she sued the netizens who made sexually harassing comments, punishable by 25 days in prison and a fine of about 27,000 baht, reported KhaoSod.
When the story became viral on social media, various netizens expressed their opinions. Many comments suggest that the face of Attack on Titan is too long and is not suitable for describing anyone’s appearance. Furthermore, people accept humour to different degrees, so I don’t think normal people would comment so harshly on others.
“Has the court approved the disgust of Attack on Titan to be prosecuted? However, on the other hand, the character is also beautiful from the inside, and intelligent.”
“Good or bad depends on the viewer.”
