A pleasant meal with friends at a renowned hotpot restaurant in China took a terrifying turn when a large rat fell from the ceiling, landing next to the hotpot they were dining from. The rat hotpot incident, which occurred on November 26, sparked outrage amongst the diners and many netizens who later saw the video of the incident online.

The woman who posted about the horrifying experience online explained how her group was enjoying their meal when the rat suddenly fell onto their table. The scene caused instant shock and squeals from everyone present.

“The scalding soup splashed on us.”

Despite the traumatic experience unfolding at the table, the restaurant staff took a while to respond and handle the situation. The video shows a worker eventually removing the rat with a cloth and cleaning the surrounding dishes.

What troubled the woman the most was the restaurant’s lack of immediate evacuation and clean-up. Instead, they allowed other customers to continue dining while her group felt extremely uncomfortable and quickly left the premises, reported Sanook.

Once the video was posted on social media, it garnered a significant amount of attention. Comments ranged from “Just watching the video scares me to death.” to “This experience makes me not want to eat hotpot anymore.”

Following the rat hotpot incident, the restaurant’s management contacted the woman to apologise and discuss a resolution. Meanwhile, the parent company of the hotpot chain issued an official apology to its customers and suspended the restaurant’s operations for two days to carry out professional disinfection throughout the premises.
