Governor Sophon awards local citizens for their selfless service in critical moments of need

Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat has honoured eight everyday heroes with certificates of recognition for their bravery, kindness and unwavering service to others throughout 2024.

The awards were presented during a ceremony held at Phuket Provincial Hall on Monday, April 28, alongside the 4th meeting of the Phuket Provincial Committee and Department Heads for 2025.

Governor Sophon, who presided over the event, praised the recipients for their moral integrity, selflessness and outstanding dedication to their communities.

“This honour recognises people who stepped up without hesitation when others were in danger. Their actions reflect the very best of what it means to be a good citizen.”

The awards stem from an initiative by the Ministry of Interior, which designated April 1 as the Day of Honouring Good Citizens. The day serves to spotlight individuals who have gone above and beyond—often at personal risk—to help others in critical situations.

Monchai Sae-lao, Director of the Phuket Provincial Ombudsman Centre, explained that the honourees were nominated in line with the Ministry of Interior’s Good Citizen Promotion and Welfare Fund regulations, and all nominations were approved, reported The Phuket News.

“These locals exemplify morality, ethics and an unshakeable commitment to helping others, without expecting anything in return.”
