A Myanmar national has been arrested for the attempted rape of a 57 year old woman in Wichit after her son’s sudden arrival forced the attacker to flee.

The horrifying incident unfolded at around 1pm on Saturday, February 15, when the victim, identified as Kai, was asleep in her home. The suspect, Soe Aung, allegedly broke in, restrained her, and began undressing her.

Police reports indicate that Soe Aung, a migrant worker, had been drinking nearby before noticing the victim was alone. He then entered her home and launched the attack.

Luckily, Kai’s son, Phonlawat, had a strong premonition that something was wrong and rushed home. Upon arrival, he saw the suspect leaving shirtless and out of breath, immediately raising suspicions.

Shaken and initially reluctant to speak, Kai later reported the assault to Wichit Police Station at 8.43pm. She was sent for a medical examination at Vachira Phuket Hospital, where doctors confirmed injuries consistent with the attack.

Wichit Police Chief Police Colonel Chatree Chueakaew ordered an urgent investigation. A team led by Pol. Lt. Col. Atthawat Suwannarat and Pol. Lt. Col. Anurak Klangnarong launched a manhunt, tracking down Soe Aung.

The suspect was apprehended shortly after and subjected to a urine test, which confirmed drug use. During questioning, he admitted to the crime, claiming he was intoxicated at the time, reported The Phuket News.

Police charged him with trespassing, attempted rape, and drug offences, with legal proceedings now underway. Further forensic tests are being conducted to strengthen the case.

In similar news, a Thai woman in Chon Buri narrowly escaped an attempted rape by outsmarting her attacker, locking herself in a bathroom under the guise of needing to defecate until he fell asleep.

The 40 year old victim, Meow, fled to her neighbours for help and reported the attack to Pan Thong Police Station at around 6.30am on February 1. She called officers to her home while the suspect was still asleep in her bedroom.

Police arrived and arrested Anuwat, who claimed he had no memory of the incident and insisted the victim had consented.
