Tourists urinate on Pattaya Beach, sparking local outrage
Outrage erupted among Thai social media users after a video emerged showing male tourists urinating on Pattaya Beach. The video, shared by a Facebook user with the caption “Swimmers swim, and urinators urinate,” quickly went viral within a popular Pattaya Facebook group, which boasts over 200,000 members.
The incident has sparked widespread anger, particularly among Pattaya locals, who questioned why the tourists did not use the available restrooms. Many expressed concerns that such reckless behaviour could tarnish Pattaya’s reputation as a world-class, family-friendly tourist destination and potentially deter future visitors.
Local journalists who investigated the scene confirmed that the incident occurred on Pattaya Beach. The incident took place either late at night or early in the morning yesterday, likely after the individuals had been drinking.
One local seafood vendor criticised the behaviour, stating it was unacceptable and pointing out that restrooms are available nearby.
Pattaya Mayor Poramase Ngamphichet has been informed of the incident and is preparing to take legal action against the tourists involved. The city plans to enforce regulations under the Cleanliness Act, as such actions can negatively impact cleanliness and the city’s tourism image, reported Pattaya News.
In a related development, one of the men involved apologised for the incident after facing multiple serious legal charges.
In related news, concerned locals and tourists alerted the Pattaya police to the presence of an unidentified foreign man sleeping on Pattaya Beach at around 3.40am on July 17. The man, dressed in a monk’s robe and a white shirt, was found lying on the sand. Upon closer inspection, police discovered he was also wearing white pants.
In other news, a Pakistani tourist’s dream holiday in Pattaya took a sour turn when two crafty pickpockets allegedly swiped US$900 (nearly 30,000 baht) right under his nose during a stroll on Jomtien Beach. The tourist, a 33 year old tailor from Pakistan, had only just arrived in Pattaya for the first time when his holiday turned into a nightmare.
