Pattaya: Swiss dad collapses on the way to pick up his son
A 57 year old Swiss man died after collapsing while riding his motorcycle to pick up his young son from school in South Pattaya on Monday.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded Monday afternoon, January 6, in Soi Bua Khao as the Swiss father was en route to Wat Chai Mongkol Kindergarten. Eyewitnesses reported the man suddenly losing consciousness, causing his motorcycle to tip over and graze a nearby songthaew.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, finding the man unresponsive.
“We immediately started CPR while waiting for backup.”
The Swiss national was transported to Pattaya City Hospital but despite the medical team’s best efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The man’s son, aged four or five, was waiting at school, unaware of the tragedy. The boy’s caregiver, 48 year old Sangwan Niyomchat expressed her grief.
“He loved his son very much. The boy was born to his former Thai partner, from whom he had separated. Whenever he returned to Thailand, he always made sure to care for his child and pick him up from school.”
The Swiss man had returned to Thailand just two months prior, reportedly to spend more time with his son. Police believe the death was caused by a sudden medical condition rather than the minor impact of the motorcycle incident, reported KhaoSod English.
An investigation into the exact cause of death is ongoing.
