Pattaya cop scales new heights to daring rescue helpless child

A courageous Pattaya cop yesterday pulled off a daring rescue mission straight out of an action film, scaling a fourth-floor balcony to save a terrified seven year old girl trapped alone in a locked flat.

The brave police officer has been showered with praise after risking life and limb to rescue the young girl stranded in a condo unit in Pattaya.

The drama unfolded at a block on Phratamnak Soi 4 when a panicked seven year old girl, locked inside with no way to contact her guardian, tried to climb across the balcony to a neighbouring flat.

That’s when Police Lieutenant Corporal Witoon Thammachat sprang into action, scaling four storeys to reach the frightened child and bringing her to safety before disaster struck.

The heart-stopping moment earned Witoon a formal commendation from his superiors. Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, handed over an award under the Royal Thai Police’s Doing Good Deserves a Reward initiative, launched by Commissioner General Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet.

The young girl escaped unharmed, and Witoon has since been hailed a hero online and in the local community, Pattaya News reported.

But Witoon’s not the only copper winning hearts in Pattaya.

Another local lawman, Wallop Tasanathanapong of the Nong Yai patrol unit, has quietly become a lifeline for struggling families in the Klong Phlu subdistrict – and he’s doing it all out of his own pocket.

Dubbed a “silent hero,” Wallop has turned his patrol car into a mobile relief van, packed with essentials like rice, adult nappies, milk, and blankets, which he personally delivers to the elderly, bedridden, and poverty-hit locals.

Every month, like clockwork, Wallop dips into his own salary to bring a touch of dignity and kindness to those in desperate need.

Ek, whose mother has been on the receiving end of the officer’s generosity.

“His dedication to us is something else. My mother speaks highly of Wallop’s unwavering kindness.”

In a city often in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, these two top cops are showing Pattaya’s beating heart is full of courage and compassion.
