Mekong momentum: Nakhon Phanom’s new bike lane sets sail for tourism boost

In Nakhon Phanom, a new initiative has been launched to boost tourism along the scenic Mekong River.

The local municipality has collaborated with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to introduce a Bike Lane Tunnel, an innovative attraction that’s set to captivate tourists throughout December. This project was announced to the public yesterday, December 7.

The Bike Lane Tunnel, a landmark fixture along the Mekong River, offers an immersive experience for cyclists, joggers, and sightseers. They can now enjoy the breathtaking views of the Thai-Lao Mekong River up close. Furthermore, the tunnel is adorned with vibrant neon lights, spanning a total distance of 500 metres, offering an enchanting spectacle that comes alive at night, especially during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Tourism in Nakhon Phanom has been on an upward trajectory. According to local officials, the region welcomed over 1.5 million tourists this year. Remarkably, this figure represents a twofold increase compared to the preceding year.

The area is famed for its spiritual landmarks, which include ancient temples and holy statues such as Wat Phra That Phanom and Phraya Srisattanakharat. These religious sites have been instrumental in attracting a significant number of visitors, reported Pattaya News.

A Nakhon Phanom Municipality representative hailed the new tunnel.

“The Bike Lane Tunnel is a unique initiative that showcases the beauty of the Mekong River while promoting outdoor activities like cycling and jogging. We hope this new attraction will encourage more visitors to discover Nakhon Phanom and its rich cultural heritage.”
