Cold spell from China brings cooler temperatures to Thailand

A cold spell from China is bringing cooler temperatures to Thailand, with a decrease of 1-3 degrees Celsius forecasted across the country. The 24-hour weather forecast indicates that this high-pressure system or cold mass of air is spreading over northern Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in colder temperatures and strong winds, particularly in the north and northeast of the country.

Northern and northeast Thailand are experiencing chilly mornings with temperatures dropping 1-3 degrees Celsius. Most areas in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao and Nan are affected. The lowest temperature is between 19-22 degrees Celsius and the highest is 28-34 degrees Celsius. Mountainous areas are even colder with temperatures ranging between 8-15 degrees Celsius.

In central Thailand, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and in the East, temperatures have also dropped slightly. The lowest temperature in these areas is 22-24 degrees Celsius and the highest is 31-34 degrees Celsius.

The east of the country is also experiencing strong winds and slightly cooler temperatures, with rain forecasted in 10% of the area, mainly in Chon Buri and Rayong provinces. The sea has waves up to 1 metre high near the shore and 1-2 metres off the coast. In areas with thunderstorms, waves can reach more than 2 metres.

In the south, the eastern side is expecting thunderstorms in 40% of the area with heavy rain in some places. Provinces affected include Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The lowest temperature is 23-25 degrees Celsius and the highest is 30-33 degrees Celsius. Sea waves are 1-2 metres high and more than 2 metres in thunderstorm areas. From Nakhon Si Thammarat province upwards, the sea has waves of about 2 metres high and more than 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.

The western side of the south, with 40% of the area experiencing thunderstorms, is mostly in Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Trang provinces. The lowest temperature is 23-25 degrees Celsius and the highest is 31-34 degrees Celsius. Sea waves are about one metre high near the shore and 1-2 metres off the coast. In thunderstorm areas, the waves can reach more than 2 metres.

In Bangkok and its vicinity, there are partly cloudy skies with strong winds and slightly lower temperatures. The lowest temperature is 23-25 degrees Celsius and the highest is 32-34 degrees Celsius, reported KhaoSod.
