Wild elephant attack in Phetchabun province leaves one dead

A wild elephant attacked officials from Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary while they were attempting to move the elephants out of agricultural areas in Phetchabun province, resulting in one death and one injury. The incident occurred yesterday, March 3, approximately 4 kilometres from Ban Huay Khoi in Lom Kao district.

Chaiwat Koomthongmak, the subdistrict administrative organisation head, explained that the elephant had separated from its herd and invaded local farmland. Upon receiving a report, wildlife officials, along with over 10 residents, attempted to drive the elephant away.

During the operation, however, the elephant charged at the officials, causing one fatality and injuring another. Following the attack, officials and rescue volunteers quickly mobilised to evacuate the injured person, transporting them to Somdej Phra Yupparat Lom Kao Hospital, reported KhaoSod.

Meanwhile, officials requested additional support to help retrieve the deceased from the scene.

In similar news, a villager gathering forest products in Mueang Phaya Kamphut, Chanthaburi province, was tragically killed by a wild elephant on March 1.

Rescue volunteers from the Sawang Katanyu Association in Pong Nam Ron were informed of the incident, which occurred within a military area in the subdistrict of Pong Nam Ron, district of Pong Nam Ron.

Following the report, local administrative officers, forest officials, soldiers from the 4th Marine Ranger Control Unit, and a team of volunteers specialising in driving away wild elephants, along with villagers, proceeded to the site.

The incident took place in a dense forest area, approximately 3 kilometres from the village, known to be inhabited by several elephants.

Police and related agencies assembled at Mueang Phaya Kamphut to strategise the operation, aiming to retrieve the deceased from the forest. Due to the dense habitat and presence of elephants, the team had to proceed on foot with the utmost caution to avoid potential danger from the wild animals.
