Tragic death of man picking mangoes in Ayutthaya canal

A 37 year old man from Bang Pahan district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, tragically died after falling into a canal while attempting to pick ripe mangoes. His relatives raised the alarm when he did not return home overnight. His body was found floating in the water yesterday, March 9.
Police Lieutenant Piyapong Sirijanyatharm, an investigator at Bang Pahan Police Station, received a report about a body floating in Ban Li canal, in the Ban Li subdistrict. The police investigation team, doctors from Bang Pahan Hospital, and the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association were dispatched to the scene to provide support.
At the location, the body of Surachet, a 37 year old resident of Ban Li subdistrict, was discovered face-down in the canal. He was wearing a camouflage t-shirt and black trousers, with a scratch on his left eyebrow.
It was estimated that he had been dead for five to six hours. Nearby, a broken mango tree branch was found in the water, close to where the body was discovered.
At the base of the mango tree, a plastic bag containing ripe mangoes was found. Surachet’s bicycle was also found leaning against a bamboo bush.

Surachet’s aunt, 43 year old Sureerat, reported that Surachet was a welder working in construction with relatives. He was last seen on the afternoon of March 8.
When he did not return home that evening, it was assumed he was working late. However, by the next morning, it was confirmed that he had not gone to work with family members, prompting a search which led to the discovery of his body in the canal.
It is believed that Surachet had used a ladder to climb the mango tree to collect ripe fruit, but the branch broke, causing him to fall into the canal, where he drowned. The police conducted an investigation at the scene and questioned witnesses, reported KhaoSod.
The Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association has been tasked with sending the body for an autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Science, Ministry of Justice, to determine the exact cause of death before releasing the body to the family for traditional funeral rites.
