The taxi, which had come to a stop facing oncoming traffic, displayed significant damage to its front right side and a cracked windshield from the impact. About 20 metres behind the taxi lay a Phuket-registered Honda Wave 110i motorbike, overturned by the side of the road.

Another 20 metres beyond the motorbike was the body of the victim, identified as Dueanphen Kaosuan. Her body was transported to Thalang Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Chakpong explained to the police that he was driving from Kamala towards the airport at the time of the accident. He claimed he did not realise how the accident occurred and only became aware of the collision after it happened.

Officers assessed the scene and noted that despite ongoing wet weather, the specific section of the road where the collision occurred was dry at the time.

Chakpong was taken to Cherng Talay Police Station for further questioning. A breathalyser test confirmed a blood alcohol level of 0%, reported Phuket News.
