Thai community enterprise signs 100 million baht deal for Korat’s Golden Bananas export to Japan
A landmark deal worth 100 million baht has been signed between a Japanese buyer and a Thai community enterprise group for the purchase of 5,000 tonnes of Korat’s Golden Bananas.
This first-ever export deal, set to greatly benefit local farmers, has been hailed for its potential to open new markets for Thai growers.
The contract was signed at the Lamtakong meeting room, Kantary Hotel, Nakhon Ratchasima. The community enterprise group from Sukhaiphum Sub-district of Soeng Sang District, Nakhon Ratchasima, were the growers involved in the deal. The banana variety, known for its sweet, fragrant and delicious taste, is to be exported to Japan – a first for this community enterprise group.
The head of the group, Somsak Saengram, expressed his delight and pride at the opportunity to sell their Korat’s Golden Bananas to an international market for the first time. He is confident that these bananas, known for their large size, sweetness, aroma and delicious taste, will be well received by the Japanese. The contract with the Japanese representative is expected to increase income opportunities for local farmers, reported KhaoSod.
Siam Sirimongkol, the governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, stated that Soeng Sang District is the largest producer of Korat’s Golden Bananas in Nakhon Ratchasima, with a cultivation area of 1,350 rai and an annual production of 8,100 tonnes. While the province is prepared to expand the production of this banana variety, the focus now is to maintain a quality that meets the standards of Japanese buyers.
