Man found dead in hammock in Phayao, murder suspected

A man was found dead in a hammock at a garden home, with police investigating the death as a murder. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 6, at a cottage in Don Kham Tai subdistrict, Phayao province. The police are pursuing two potential motives: a personal dispute or drug-related issues.

Yesterday, police officers, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiyasit Khadphab, Deputy Inspector of Don Kham Tai Police Station, and Police Colonel Bowon Chaikam, Superintendent arrived at the scene. They were joined by a rescue team from San Pa Pao.

The body of 43 year old Akharaphon was discovered in a wooden hut. He was lying in a hammock with his head resting on a sofa, with injuries that resulted in bleeding from the head and body, which stained the wooden floor. The rescue team promptly transported him to Don Kham Tai Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A post-mortem examination revealed three wounds on Akharaphon’s head caused by a blunt object. Two smaller wounds measured 5 centimetres, while a larger wound measured 10 centimetres. These injuries severely impacted his brain function, causing significant blood loss and leading to his death.

Pol. Col. Bowon Chaikam, along with the investigative team from the provincial police and Don Kham Tai Police Station, revisited the scene to gather further evidence regarding Akharaphon’s death.

Initial police hypotheses suggest two possible causes: a conflict with friends or drug involvement. Blood tests indicated Akharaphon tested positive for drugs, and he was known to frequently consume alcohol, reported KhaoSod.

Police are tracing the suspect responsible for the attack to proceed with legal action.
