A video of a local volunteer protection officer, visibly drunk, interrupting a performance by renowned molam band Khwanjai Fan has gone viral. The officer, dressed in full uniform, took to the stage and demanded the comedy act stop, expressing his desire to hear a molam toei performance instead.

The incident occurred on Saturday, March 8 at Baan Hin Ngom temple in Sakhon district, Udon Thani province. The video, shared by the Khwanjai Fan Molam Band Facebook page, has sparked significant social media attention.

In the clip, the officer approached the stage during a comedy performance, claiming the committee had instructed him to stop the act, as they had not hired comedians for the event.

The band leader, Man Chakraphan, later addressed the situation through a livestream. He explained that while his band had witnessed similar incidents with others, he never expected it to happen to them.

The band had been performing a scheduled set, which included a concert, a comedy show, and a traditional molam performance through the night. The officer’s interruption occurred just as the comedy segment was concluding.

Man shared that the band had been performing for four years and had encountered various challenges. He emphasised that performers have feelings and deserve respect.

The band had planned a concise performance in response to local preferences, but some awaited the comedy act. The officer’s intrusion was unexpected, as the organisers had not requested his intervention.

The officer, a local volunteer, was not part of the official security team for the event, which had been arranged by the village committee to ensure safety without involving subdistrict administration personnel. His actions were confirmed to be independent, and he was removed from the stage by event security after displaying signs of intoxication. The performance then resumed without further issues.

Village committee member Somporn Chantachad confirmed that the incident was a misunderstanding. He clarified that the community leaders did not instruct the officer to halt the comedy act and apologised for the confusion on behalf of the community, reported KhaoSod.

The officer involved, a 55 year old identified as A, later admitted his mistake. He explained that he had attended the performance in uniform and, noticing the audience’s lack of engagement, acted on his own to request a traditional molam toei performance. He expressed remorse for his actions, particularly towards the performers and the band, acknowledging his lapse in judgement.
