Bus and lorry crash in Nakhon Ratchasima leaves many injured

A bus collided with a lorry in Sikhio district, Nakhon Ratchasima province resulting in numerous injuries to its passengers. Police were informed of the crash yesterday, March 10, at 3.05pm, and emergency response teams from the nearby Sikhio Hospital were dispatched to the scene.
At the site, a Bangkok-Yasothon route bus was found with its front severely damaged. Upon the arrival of emergency response teams, the driver was still trapped inside, sustaining critical injuries. Eleven passengers, consisting of five men and six women, were escorted from the bus and received first aid under a roadside tree.
Many passengers suffered scrapes on their arms, legs, torso, and head. Rescue teams used hydraulic equipment to free the male bus driver, aged between 35 to 40, who had significant facial injuries and deformed limbs.
He was urgently transported to Sikhio Hospital. Nearby, about 15 metres away, a lorry was parked, carrying a full load of bricks. The 39 year old lorry driver, Sakchai Hobhunkam, awaited police questioning.
Sakchai explained that he was driving at a normal speed, transporting bricks from Saraburi to Roi Et. The bus, approaching rapidly, impacted the rear of his lorry. Sakchai immediately stopped to assist the injured passengers. CCTV footage from a nearby shop captured the bus crashing into the lorry at high speed.
One passenger revealed that earlier in the day, there had been another accident in Saraburi province due to the previous driver falling asleep, resulting in minor injuries. The passengers were then transferred to a new bus with a different driver, only for another accident to happen.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident. Following the crash, Anyanee Wongsa, head of the Sikhio district transport office, was also present at the scene of the accident to gather information and expedite assistance for the victims, reported KhaoSod.
